The Town of Okotoks is looking to residents for feedback on their downtown design master plan.

The plan is meant to guide ongoing and future development of the town and looks at architecture, public grounds, streetscapes, and lighting. It will also help to establish new land use bylaw standards that could be put in place in the future.

Colin Gainer, senior planner with the Town of Okotoks, says it's designed to build off existing work done under the community visioning and community sustainability plan.

"It'll help with making downtown animated and a desirable place for people to go, as well as build on the existing work that's been done bringing in Roger Brooks and looking at branding and other aspects of the downtown."

Gainer says it's key that residents, business owners, and stakeholders voice their opinions.

"If there's not the buy in and the feedback from our individuals the plan is never really going to succeed and really achieve the aim that we hope," he says. "Ultimately the plan is going to be that guiding document, that vision for downtown... without the feedback, thoughts and feelings of the community it's not really going to be able to achieve those aims."

A session with high school students is planned in the future so the Town can get a broader range of feedback they can use towards developing the plan.

The first drop-in feedback session was Apr. 29 from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Okotoks Municipal Centre.
