UPDATE:

The Foothills School Division has provided parents with an update on how classes will proceed.

Scheduled classes on Wednesday and Thursday will commence as planned, with any students who missed class on Tuesday attending class on Friday instead.

Tuesday, September 8th will be an operational day with no class for students, wherein faculty will meet to discuss if any operational changes should be made before students fully re-enter.

They are also reminding families of the importance of the Alberta Daily Health Check.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Meadow Ridge school in Okotoks will be closed today due to a COVID-19 diagnosis among a staff member.

The Foothills School Division notified parents of the cancellation on Monday evening.

In the email, FSD noted that the closure was not the decision of Alberta Health Services, who indicated that the school was, in fact, safe to open.

They say the closure came due to the late hour of the confirmation, and to allow health officials to carry out the contact tracing process.

For an outbreak to be declared, two or more cases have to be confirmed among staff or students.

According to FSD, the employee was last at the school on August 28th, and developed symptoms that night.

The COVID-19 case was confirmed on Monday evening.

Enhanced cleaning procedures were enacted, with an emphasis on areas the individual occupied when they were at the school.

Families with children scheduled to attend school at Meadow Ridge on Tuesday will be notified when further updates are available.
