While the City of Chestermere deals with the aftermath of overland flooding throughout the town Sunday, the Town of Okotoks is reaching out to help.

Mayor Bill Robertson says having experienced flooding in 2013, the Town knows the importance of showing its support.

"We can certainly offer any assistance possible that we might by able to offer to them, in order to mitigate, perhaps, future events," he says. "We're all in this together, I mean tomorrow it could be Okotoks that needs assistance from other communities, so we're quite willing to look out for our neighbours."

After the idea was brought up during Monday's Council meeting, Robertson says he plans on contacting the Mayor of Chestermere directly.

"(Mayor) Patricia Matthews is a friend of mine," he says. "If there's something we can to do offer to help out, then by all means. I'm sure the other Mayors in the region feel the same way."

With both Okotoks and Chestermere part of the Calgary Regional Partnership, Robertson says Alberta's newest city is like a sister-community to Okotoks.

"We face many of the same issues and problems," he says. "Other communities in this region, basically anybody in close proximity to Calgary, has experienced tremendous growth over the last number of years, and we lean on one another for advice and support."

Hundreds of Chestermere homes were left damaged by the flood, caused by a sudden downpour on Sunday.

Okotoks experienced a similar sudden downpour Monday afternoon, but no serious flooding occurred.
