The Town of Okotoks is in the spotlight once again.

Okotoks has received the 2015 Chinook Country Tourist Association Municipality of the Year award.

Shane Olson, Economic Development Manager with the Town of Okotoks, says it's great to stand out amongst many other communities.

"We were nominated by a number of other municipalities and peers throughout Southern Alberta, everything south of Calgary down to the border so we're very pleased to be receiving this recognition as it demonstrates excellence in tourism, marketing, and serving visitors once they get here."

Olson says the award is a testament to not just the towns tourism promotion but the cultural activities, festivals and events held each year.

Okotoks has taken part in many initiatives including the lead role in the Cool Little Towns project. The Town also recently won an award from the Economic Development Association of Canada for its Visitors and Activities Guide and has received recognition for other slogans and campaigns over the past year.

Olson says a current project with Roger Brooks International will help to further enhance the towns tourism appeal.

"The downtown branding exercise is very exciting as we embark on that journey and we're looking forward to the outcomes working closely with our downtown businesses and our community to provide input on longer term marketing ideas and branding impact."
