After a number of vehicle break-ins in the Cimarron last week, the Okotoks RCMP is once again reminding residents to not make their vehicles vulnerable to thieves.

Sgt Jim Ross says the biggest issues that law enforcement deals with when it comes to quick crimes like this is the matter of owners leaving valuables in the victim's vehicles.

"Unfortunately we've seen a few incidents in the last week where vehicles were broken into and these cases they were broken into and items were being stolen," he says. "But unfortunately those victims of these crimes had left some valuables in the line of sight."

Ross says it doesn't take much to catch the attention of a potential prowler.

"These perpetrators to the vehicles they see something that is of value so they break-in and grab the property."

Although informing the community through social media to be on the look out, Ross recommends that those involved in a break-in give the RCMP a call.

"The sooner we receive the information it enables us to act upon it and obviously the quicker we can get there and maybe we have the chance of catching those responsible and are preventing other incidents from occurring so we do encourage people to let us know as soon as possible."
