The Okotoks Economic Development Team has once again been recognized for their hard work in promoting the local tourism scene in Town, picking up a special special honour.

The Town received the Growing Rural Tourism Champion award back in February in Camrose.

Economic Development Manager Shane Olson says it's a special honour for the Town.

"It's really about the role the Town of Okotoks played in supporting the Cool Little Towns initiative, the Foothills Holiday Roadshow and the promotion of some of our agricultural tourism operator such as the Kayben, Saskatoon Farm and Chinook Honey within Okotoks and the M.D. boundary this past year," he says.

Olson says there was a lot work put into being eligible for the award.

"The award recognizes the Town for it's innovation through adaptation. The summertime tourism campaign let your summer unfold in Okotoks of course had incredible interest after a portion of the C-Train advertisement highlighting 'A Number Of Things To Do In Okotoks' went viral."

The infamous C-Train ad that looked to be a joke for the turned into the gold for the Town and not a laughing matter as this isn't the 1st award the Town has received since the viral social frenzy went out on the 'Number Of Things To Do In Okotoks".

Olson says the ad has only helped the town promote tourism and was perfect timing with the Roger Brooks branding initiative taken earlier last fall.

"It demonstrates the hard working commitment that we've displayed in supporting the tourism industry while working closely with our partners to share and learn and provide marketing opportunities to attract more visitation to our community."
