It looks like at least one cannabis store in High River is getting close to opening their doors.

The Owner of Quadz Cannabis downtown, Shawn Vasantha Kumar, says they're in the final stages of preparations.

"Everything is ready for us except for the AGLC (Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission) license. So they (the province) issued 17 before Wednesday, October 17 and promised to issue 80 to 100 by the end of the month. We're hoping to be one of those 80 to 100."

Kumar says he's not worried about over saturating the market with five other stores set to open in High River in the near future.

"We just look around at the number of liquor stores. If you talk to any liquor store, they're not losing money. So, we expect the same."

He says once they do open they'll be employing a handful of locals.

"We have seven people that are already on our roster and ready to go. They're waiting for our licensing. One Manager, two key holders, two part times and two full times."

Kumar says he's hoping to have his doors open by early December.
