A man from the Okotoks area is among 99 people to receive recognition by the Governor General by being appointed to the Order of Canada.

According to Governor General David Johnston, Kim McConnell is being made a member of the Order of Canada for his leadership in promoting Canada's agricultural industry and for his extensive engagement in causes supporting youth, entrepreneurship and rural communities.

McConnell is the founder and former CEO of AdFarm, an agriculture-focused marketing and communications firm.

According to Long View IT's web site McConnell "Has led many national and international brand and marketing assignments for many respected companies including Farm Credit Canada, Bayer, Dow, RBC Royal Bank, Agrium and Canada Beef Inc."

Today he's a director of the Alberta Livestock & Meat Agency, the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Fund, Genome Canada, the Agri-Trend Group, and Chairman of the Canadian 4-H Foundation.

He was raised on a farm in Manitoba, and he and his family now live on an acreage near Okotoks.
