Perhaps some positive news for local landowners stuck with orphan wells on their property.

The Province is loaning $235 million to the Orphan Well Association to speed up the process of cleaning up abandoned well sites.

The government estimates over the three years it'll take to do the work 1,650 jobs will be created.

The loan will be repaid over 30 years by the Association, which collects funds from the oil and gas industry.

There's an estimated 69-thousand abandoned wells in Alberta.
