Pason Centennial Arena is slowly starting to look like a construction zone as the building of the twinned arenas is set to break ground.

Community Services Director for the Town of Okotoks Susan Laurin says you should see some action happening in a few days.

"We've got the construction fencing going up, the next thing they're going to do over the next couple weeks is the stripping and grading," she says. "So they will be removing the top soil from the site and getting the site ready for the foundation."

With all of the construction and equipment required for the job, Laurin says you'll see some of the work progress slowly in the beginning as they don't want to make the parking lot hard to navigate as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling will be at the arena later this month.

"We do know the Grand Slam of Curling is coming so they will be doing the stripping and grading and then they'll be piling the material in November to start the foundation's base the first week in November after the Grand Slam."

Laurin says that once the curling is over the real work begins.

"That allows the extended parking for the grand slam and then after that and once the big equipment comes in, construction fencing is going to expand in area so it will take up some of the back parking lot not the front parking lot."

The Town reminds everyone parking and using the arena to stay in front of the fence and park over by the Centennial Centre if needed.

Laurin added the projected completion time for the arena has been set to January 2018.
