The Pee Wee "A" Provincial hockey championships are coming up next month in High River.

One of the organizers behind the event, Tammy Beach says the committee put a lot of work and effort into getting the championships.

"A couple of them put a ton of work, hours and hours of work into the bid, and that includes  the budget, you have to plan stuff for these boys to take part in, but part of it is community and community spirit and as a committee we felt that we needed to showcase our beautiful little town of High River," Beach says. "With that in mind we have these nine teams coming to High River and we want them to think 'wow High River's a great place to be, let's come back in the summer or let's come watch the balloons or let's come for the Little Britches Parade, come for the Santa Clause Parade, so we have incorporated a ton of community stuff as well."

She says they've come up with lots of activities to keep the players and their families busy when they're not on the ice, including movies, swimming  and magic shows.

Beach says the Town's been a big supporter by providing free swim passes and the Rotary Club will be putting on a breakfast for the players and their families.

The championship tournament runs from March 10 - 14 at the High River Rec-plex and the Blackie Arena.
