High River RCMP have seen an increase in the amount of counterfeit U.S. money being passed at local businesses.

Since May 7, 2016 they've received six reports of counterfeit money being passed at seven locations in town.

The police have been able to identify suspects and lay charges in four of the incidents,  and are asking businesses to be vigilant when accepting U.S. money.

Commonly used denominations are $20, $50 and $100.

Police are encouraging businesses to speak with their employees and provide tips for identifying counterfeit money.
