Campers can get a head start on their summer plans.

On Tuesday, Alberta Parks opened their comfort camping reservations.

When group camping reservations opened on Feb. 8 Alberta Parks saw the highest total for those reservations online in their 6 year history with about 1,600 reservations processed that day.

Tim Chamberlin, spokesperson for Alberta Parks, says the online booking system is easy to use.

"The system will take you through the process of setting up an account and after you set up an account you can continue to book your provincial parks experience throughout the course of the summer," he says. "Our reserve system has proved to be very popular, we have over 360,000 account users, last year alone we processed more than 150,000 online reservations."

Chamberlin says the next reservations to open will be the regular campsite bookings.

"On February 22 when open for the regular camping reservations again we'll be going with staggered times for the regions," he says. "This staggered approach reduces the volume and gives people an idea of what time they can book for their particular region."

Booking for the south region will open at 9:00 a.m. on the 22nd, followed by Kananaskis Country, the central region, and the northwest region.
