The High River and District Health Care Foundation's annual Points Of Light campaign is underway again.

Claire Senger was on hand at the hospital Thursday night to throw the switch and says she's glad to do it.

"It's been a number of years we've been doing this for 23 years now in lighting the tree in memory of my dad and other individuals in High River and it's just a really great cause and we're happy to continue to support the High River hospital," Senger says.

The program started with a single tree after her father, Dr. Len Senger, passed away suddenly.

Donors can purchase a bulb in memory of someone special with all of the proceeds going to the Spiritual Care program at the hospital.

Paras Persad is a Chaplin at the hospital and he says they're available during the best and worst times of people's lives.

"The Spiritual Care program here provides spiritual and emotional supports to patients and staff as well and community members as the need arises," Persad says. "We come alongside hurting people in their lowest moments but we also come alongside people during times of happy events, the birth of a child, marriage, all of the positive aspects of people's lives."

Carmen Lamoureux and Kristy Corbett, who run the Hitchin' Post, just recently lost their mother at the hospital.

"It (Points of Light) means remembering a loved one, we just lost ours just six weeks ago, remembering her and our father, he is nine years ago next week, so just remembering them and keeping them in our hearts," Lamoureux says.

"When the second floor (patients) always came, when they went for their drives, dad always gave them ice cream cause he said we'll always give them their ice cream because one day we might be there," Corbett says. "And Carmen still gives, when the second floor comes in the little mini-van full of the old folks, my sister still gives ice cream to them because they are so good and the staff is so caring."

Last year the campaign raised close to $16,000.
