We all know the Town of High River has taken numerous steps to prepare for future flooding, but flooding isn't the only emergency that could strike the town.

Director of emergency management for the Town, Carly Benson, says a report is now available where they've assessed 29 potential risks that could cause emergency events.

"One of the major risks was tornadoes. That's kind of been in the news lately with the weather warnings we've seen. And then if it's short of a tornado, like severe wind, that can actually cause quite a bit of damage to buildings," she says. "We (also) have some risks (associated with) infrastructure and with mechanical failures that can cause sewer backups and all those sorts of things."

She says it's important to get this information out to residents, so they can understand each risk and start to prepare for potential-emergency events.

"So this plan is the assessment of the risks," she says. "So we describe what the risk is, what the likelihood is and what the consequences of those risks are."

She says the next step is to go through the assessment and develop specific plans to deal with each of the risks.
