An unexpected power outage in High River yesterday afternoon, Wednesday January 24th, was due to an equipment failure.

Jen Cain, communications advisor with Fortis Alberta, says the power was back online by 2:20 p.m.

"We had a failed piece of equipment that needed repair," said Cain. "We had 843 customers out."

They were able to restore power to 200 customers within an hour and the rest were back up at 2:20 p.m.

"Sometimes it just happens with equipment and we respond as quickly as we can to get out there and get the lights back on for everyone."

The High River Fire Department was busy responding to alarm calls and two medical assists related to the power outage.
