With mayor of Black Diamond Sharlene Brown taking on the role of the town's CAO and councillor Michel Jackson stepping down there are two spots open on Black Diamond Town Council.

The Town will be holding a by-election for both the mayor and councillor position this summer.

Ruth Goodwin, deputy mayor, says those interested should do some research before getting nominated.

"If they're interested it's a good idea to have conversations with existing members of council and also doing your research online to find out what the roles and responsibilities are."

Applications and nominations will be accepted on July 25.

Goodwin says the by-election is an exciting time for the residents in the town.

"If they would really like to make a difference... and learn what actually happens on the other side of the table. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens."

The by-election will take place on Aug. 22.
