There should be some more positive news at the gas pump.

Dan McTeague, a senior analyst with Gas Buddy says the switch to winter grade fuel means lower prices because its cheaper for refineries to make.

"You also have to realize that demand for gasoline drops right after Labour Day so with summer officially behind us as far as driving is concerned it usually lends itself to lower prices," he says.

"The winter blended gasoline is cheaper to make. Refineries are already going through the turnaround period in order to produce that kind of cheaper made gasoline, and that technically should mean lower prices for consumers heading into the second and third weeks in September."

He says prices could drop by as much as 20 per cent with the combination of winter grade fuel and the post holiday season.
