Thanks to a warm, dry spring, fish in area rivers and streams are suffering.

The Province has placed an advisory on angling in river's like the Bow, Highwood and Sheep, as well as creeks and streams in the mountains to the west.

It's all a part of preserving the fish stocks.

Alberta Environment Senior Fisheries Biologist, Paul Christensen, says the fish are stressed thanks to a much warmer than average spring.

"We've seen earlier run-off, lower spring flows, resulting from lower winter snow packs, are resulting with lower levels in streams combined with higher temperatures in streams is resulting in high water temperatures for fish which is kind of aggravating the whole problem."

He says they're asking anglers to head to lakes or ponds for the time being to avoid stressing fish in river's and streams, which leads to much higher mortality rates when streams are low.
