Alberta Transportation Minister Brian Mason says work is continuing on the western half of the Calgary ring road.

He announced the signing of new contracts Tuesday, March 5, to start work on the north end this Spring, and says the south end will start soon as well.

"We're going to be twinning the Bow River bridge on the north segment of the west Calgary ring road, connecting Highway One and the Old Banff Coach Road. And these segments are set to be complete in the Fall of 2021 and 2022 respectively."

Mason says the southwest end of the ring road will be coming online soon.

"I just want to mention the southwest Calgary ring road is set to open to the public in the Fall of 2021. Once completed Calgarians and other travellers in the area will be able to enjoy the benefits of a 101 kilometre, free flow road around the City of Calgary."

Mason says the entire road will be open in 2022.
