The Chair of the High River Hockeyville effort over the Winter is all smiles with news the Calgary Flames Foundation are giving the Town $60,000 for arena upgrades at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.

Melissa Pryor says the Flames told her back in July they were going to kick in some cash, she just didn't know how much.

"They said they wanted to help and they could help with a big chunk of the money we needed. And they ended up giving us half of what we need so we can turn around and apply for a matching grant and actually get the job done without dipping into taxpayers pockets. So it's really huge for the Town, the entire town, whether you're a hockey fan or not."

Pryor says the Flames are "high" on High River.

"They're in! They definitely want to come down and visit High River. What we're looking at doing is once we have the matching grant and the lighting upgrades are done, then we might have them come down sometime in February. But we'll see what happens."

In the meantime, the Town of High River is applying for a matching government grant to bring the total to $120,000, plus the $50,000 they have in hand from Hockeyville and Alta Link.
