About 50 people turned out for a public meeting on creating a new brand for the town of High River Monday night.

Megan Rokosh, Strategic Director with Anstice Communications says when you Google High River what comes up are pictures of the town under water and that narrative has to change.

"Part of our challenge is that the flood was so heavily covered, which in one respect it put High River on the map but it put it on the map for something we didn't want High River known for long term," Rokosh says."So the way that you replace that content is you generate new content, so it's our job to solicit new stories about High River, so go back to those key publications from a publications standpoint and get them talking about High River in a new light.

They've come up with two options, one that focuses on people while the other is aimed at showing where the town wants to be as a town.

Creative Director with Anstice, Shannon Hewlko says choices reflect creative directions any program could take.

"They're both very similar, they both highlight similar attributes, one puts, really I feel the truth, so Rooted In People is what we found came up a lot and the real truth and the real essence of what's here," Hewlko says. "Where as Venture Here is a bit more inspirational of where we want to be as a town or where high river wants to be with, there's lots of 'For Lease' signs, you want to attract businesses here entrepreneurs here, we found that's a really rich demographic."

Hewlko says ballots from the first two sessions they held, including one earlier in the day with town council, were really divided which she feels means they've done a good job in pulling out narratives that speak to people in the community.

She says they'll take the feedback to the office in Calgary and take it all into consideration and work with Economic Development Officer Jodi Dawson to make a final decision on which way to move forward including, perhaps, some combination of the two.
