Organizations from Okotoks, High River, Claresholm and Nanton are among over two dozen groups across Alberta receiving $1.2-million to help address and prevent elder abuse.  

The grants are to help bring together a number of different organizations to fight elder abuse.

A part-time coordinator will be hired by Okotoks FCSS to develop a model serving Okotoks, High River and surrounding rural communities.

Partners include Rowan House, the MD of Foothills, RCMP, Foothills Foundation, Okotoks and District Seniors Club, medical professionals, community programs, and the Okotoks Family Resource Centre.

The Nanton Quality of Life Foundation will use the funding to hire a consultant to help with the development of their coordinated community response plan along with Nanton RCMP and the Nanton Food Bank, Mosquito Creek Foundation and the Town of Nanton.

The Calgary Rural Primary Care Network will hire a coordinator to lead and develop programs involving the Porcupine Hills Lodge, Claresholm Home Care Program, and Claresholm Addictions and Mental Health Clinic.
