More than 80 Royal Canadian Air Cadets and officers will parade through High River to the steps of the Town Office Saturday (May 20) morning to be granted the “Freedom of the City”.

The ceremony which dates back to ancient Rome is being performed to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Foothills, Royal Canadian Air Cadet 187 Squadron.

The group has served High River, Okotoks, Nanton and surrounding areas since 1942 and is based at the High River Regional Airport.

Following the ceremony, 187 squadron will lead the parade as this year’s Honoured Community Organization and will escort the Parade Marshal, Foothills MP John Barlow.

The ceremony is set for 9:00 a.m. on the steps of the town office and will be presided over by Mayor Craig Snodgrass.
