Alberta RCMP are beginning to focus on summer safety as the weather starts to heat up.

This month the spotlight is on motorcycle safety and police are asking motorcyclists to plan ahead before they ride.

According to the Alberta Ministry of Transportation, wearing an approved helmet leads to a 37 per cent less likely chance of being fataly injured during a collision.

All weather proof clothing and bright colours should be worn along with shatter proof eye protection.

RCMP are also reminding motorcyclists to watch their speed and avoid riding in blind spots on roads and in parking lots to help increase their presence around vehicles.
