With the recent string of vandalism in Olde Towne Okotoks, the RCMP is hoping to get to the bottom of the situation.

Sgt. Sukh Randhawa says this type of activity tends to ramp up this time of year.

"The RCMP is aware that it's Summer time, and there's lots of kids out and about during the late hours," he says. "We have increased our patrols in the community so we're vigilant, and visible as well to these kids."

Randhawa says even with the increased patrol, they can't be all places at all times, so they're always looking for more information from the public.

"The businesses and the citizens of Okotoks need to be cognizant of what's happening around them," he says. "If they're seeing a suspicious activity, we encourage them to contact the RCMP so we can properly investigate these types of incidents."

Randhawa says it's also important for businesses in Olde Towne Okotoks to communicate with each other.

"We encourage businesses to talk amongst themselves about what's happening in the community, in terms of any thefts or any damages done to their property in the neighbourhood, so that we can get to the bottom of it," he says.

In recent weeks, Boothill Gallery in Okotoks, Tribal Connection Market, Dit N Dat, The Okotoks Art Gallery, and Finishing Touches have all come forward saying they've been a target of vandalism, and there have also been reports of fires being started inside public washrooms.

Sgt. Randhawa says if you come across or witness any acts of vandalism, call the RCMP.
