Friday marks National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

The goal of the CheckStop Blitz is to prevent impaired driving, which according to RCMP is one of the leading causes of criminal death in Canada.

In Alberta 112 RCMP detachments will have officers hitting the highway with some assistance from Alberta Traffic Sheriffs as well.

Officers are reminding Albertans to call 911 if they suspect a motorist is impaired.

In the five CheckStop Blitz since 2013, more than 345,000 vehicles have been checked and over 2,500 enforcement actions taken against impaired drivers.
