The long weekend will soon be upon us and that means lots of people heading out camping.

High River RCMP Sergeant Brent Hawker says they too will be out on the roads.

"It is a national impaired driving campaign that goes on this weekend so Saturday is the national impaired driving campaign, so there'll be members on the road looking to deal with issues of impaired driving," he says. "What will happen is members will be diligent on the roadways to ensure that people are drinking responsibly and certainly if they're drinking responsibly, coupled with, that they're not out driving. I know some provincial parks have an alcohol prohibition on this first long weekend but that's not the only location that concerns us.

He says the goal is to get everyone out to their destinations as safely as possible and return them home the same way.

Sgt. Hawker says if you see anything on the roads they need to know about call 9-1-1.
