RCMP are asking us to practice summer safety this Heritage Day long weekend.

Talking on a cell phone, texting, reading a book, eating, tending to other passengers or pets and personal grooming behind the wheel all count as distracted driving and could lead to an increased risk of a collision.

Seatbelts must be worn by everyone in the vehicle, and helmets for those on motorcycles and off road vehicles.

And if you're out in a boat it's also important to remember impaired driving laws apply equally when out on the water.

According to RCMP, in 2017 there were 18 instances of impaired operation of a boat and three boating collisions in Alberta.
