Residents of High River are always up for a good competition and the Library is hoping for some extra support for the Read for 15 Program on Family Literacy Day.

Director Mary Zazelenchuk says since it happens on a Saturday this year you can do the reading on Friday or Saturday to qualify.

"This year it is on two days Friday Janurary 26th and Saturday Janurary 27th, " said Zazelenchuk. "And you can read anything. You can read your email, you can read a book, you can read a newspaper, you can read online, it is up to you entirely."

This is a competition against communities with the same population as High River.

"We want to whup those other communities. What we ask you to do is read for 15 minutes and report the number of readers at your home, at your school, at your workplace."

Last year 1400 people from High River took part and Zazelenchuk is hoping for way more people to take part this year.

"If you want to participate just talk to people around your workplace, for instance."

Have someone at you workplace keep track of all the people and their reading times and have that person pass the information on to the Library.

"It is a very simple thing to do to support literacy to support the library."

To report your minutes you can call the Library at 403-652-2917, email library@highriverlibrary.com, tag or message them in Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with #Readfor15.
