Alberta Farm Animal Care (AFAC) is looking for groups, or individuals, who have made exceptional contributions to livestock welfare.

Executive Director of AFAC, Annemarie Petersen, says nominations for their Awards of Distinction are open until February 15.

"I think there are a lot of people doing great things in animal agriculture in Alberta today, but we need to be able to share those stories, and one of the ways we can do that is by recognizing and awarding prizes like the one here."

AFAC has been presenting the awards since 2001.

Petersen says, the three award categories are Communication, Industry Leadership, and Innovation.

"We're looking for people, in communications, who are telling the story of animal agriculture and livestock welfare. For industry leadership, obviously, those are people who are really walking the walk, and bringing and integrating animal welfare into their farms and their businesses, and innovation is people who are looking at different ways to do things, improving on what's existing and looking at impacting animal agriculture, and animal welfare in a positive way."

Peterson, says nominations for their awards are easy to fill out.

"We make it as simple as possible, but we really do want to celebrate the good stories, and the things that are in livestock production out in Alberta."

The awards will be presented at the 2018 Livestock Care Conference in Olds, March 14 to 15.
