Hard times may still affect a lot of people in the Foothills, but that didn't stop the community from supporting the food bank food drive over the weekend.

Lt. Kelly Fifield with the High River Salvation Army, says the annual "Love High River" food drive had a better response than last year.

This year they returned to delivering red bags with a note attached to it to every home in High River asking that people fill it up with groceries and volunteers with "Love High River" went door-to-door picking them up.

"We are a little low on volunteers on the pick up side of things," Fifield said. "We are hoping to get out there and get it all, but if you have a bag and you want to make sure you get it in they can always drop it off at any of the grocery stores or drop it off at our office Monday to Friday."

She says it's important to have the shelves stocked up before the summer when people are sometimes too busy to donate but the need is still great.

"It is a time when lots of people are out and about and away but there are still those that are in need and so we don't see as many food drives happening but we still see our numbers staying at the same level for those needing assistance."
