It has taken a few years of hard work but the Town of Nanton is about to take the final steps to making the new Wastewater Plant operational.

The next and final steps in hooking everything up takes place from midnight until 6 am on June 6.

The project came in about 10 days late, because of thunder storms last year and was very close to its 10 million dollar budget.

Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Miller says it is fantastic that the project is almost done.

'We are very excited to be at the kind-of ending point of our construction of the wastewater treatment plant here in the Town of Nanton," said Miller.

On Monday Miller says residents will notice a fair number of tanker trucks bringing in seed sludge from nearby plants which is needed to start the plant.

Then starting at midnight on Tuesday contractors will start to change over all the connections from the old plant to the new one.

While they are doing the overnight work Miller asks that residents reduce their use of wastewater.

So if you need to flush the toilet, or have a shower go right ahead, but maybe leave the clothes washing machines and dishwashers until after 6 a.m.

"If you are taking a shower for example we would ask you to keep it to five minutes as opposed to a longer shower."

After 6 a.m. they will be putting waste water arriving from Nanton homes through the new plant.

'The old girls has done us well, she was a plant designed for approximately 20 years and we over 36 years of operation on it right now. We have gotten our life out of our existing plant."

He added it is going to be very nice to have a new facility.
