Some sad news for High River residents Monday, January 21, with the passing of local musician Mel Wilson.

Tributes for Wilson, who'd been battling illness in hospital, poured in on social media upon news of his passing.

Wilson owned Mel's Music in town for many years, but couldn't bring it back to life again after the 2013 floods.

Mel Wilson spent a lot of time at his bench when he ran Mel's Music where he bought, sold and serviced guitars for years, all while passing out advice and wisdom to musicians young and old. Photo courtesy Natalie LeClair (Facebook).

Many High River Musicians owe their start to Wilson, who not only bought, sold and serviced guitars, but taught generations of High River and Foothills area kids to play and to love music.

He was also one of the driving forces behind the local music scene, and could always be found playing at local music hot spots, or at jams at area watering holes.

So, far, there's no details on funeral arrangements.
