With 37 years policing experience RCMP Sgt. Terry Wickett is looking to retire and he is excited to take on new role in Nanton.

He is one of 12 people running to become a town councillor in the Municipal Election on Oct. 16th.

"I've had enough experience now with the RCMP for over 37 years and I wanted to be able to continue my service to the community. We are going to retire here, my family is all here."

Including his wife Donna and their five grandchildren.

Wickett says he is looking forward to using the skills he has gathered over his long career to help the community out.

One area he would really like to help out with is the Protective and Public Services Committee.

"With the experience I have in incident commands. I have been involved in numerous incidents. Unfortunately some of them have been very bad."

Some of the incidents include the flooding in Southern Alberta, tornadoes and this fall far too many grass fires.

Wickett is also concerned with ensuring the public works employees have the training and tools they need to help keep the jobs local.

"Rather than have work and contractors come from outside. So our people can have and do the work here."

He was planning to make this move when he realized the election lined up with the year he decided to retire in.

"Lot's of times people work during the day time and they don't have the time to commit to it."
