"Not an income problem, but a spending problem."

That's the campaign focus of former Turner Valley Town Councillor Gary Rowntree, and the reason he's taking a run at the Mayors chair in the October election in Turner Valley.

Rowntree feels the previous council could have done a better job managing the Town's finances, particularly when it comes to taxation and the value taxpayers get for their money.

"As Mayor and Council, they are the trustees of our tax dollars. It looks like some of the spending that has taken place, even though it was included in the budgets, just didn't seem to be in line with what the taxpayers are expecting here."

Rowntree sat on Council from 2007 to 2010.

Last year he helped found the Turner Valley Ratepayers Board to advocate for tax change in the Town.
