The Salvation Army in Calgary has seen a sharp drop in the amount of toy and other donations this holiday season.

So much, that they've had to close their warehouse and tell volunteers they don't need them.

That's not the case here in the Foothills.

High River's Lieutenant Chad Cole says they are a little off, but not too much.

"The donations overall are still coming in, perhaps not at the amount we saw or the volume that we saw last year. But we're still in relatively good shape heading into the season. So, by mid-next week we'll really know what we're short on."

He says they start to distribute the Christmas hampers on the Friday, December 21, and so far are looking at giving out around 200.

He says the deadline for those registering to receive a hamper has already passed, but they're willing to extend it to those in need.

He says what they need most is toys for kids 10 and up, particularly teenagers.

If you want to register call the Foothills Family Services at (403)652-2195.

Toy donations can be dropped off at various locations around High River, Okotoks and the Foothills.
