Santa has Gone Loonie in Nanton - or at least he will be soon.

Santa's Gone Loonie workshop is open on December 13th where children 3 to 17 can come pick out a special gift for an adult in their life.

Nicole Van Langen, Executive Director of the Nanton Quality of Life Foundation says watching the children make their choices is heart warming.

"We've had kids that have come in and it is the first time they have ever been able to give a gift to Grandma and Grandpa or Mom and Dad," said Van Langen. "And to see them and the thought that they have put into it and the care that goes into choosing that gift. It is a pretty special thing."

This year the Alberta Pork Producers have donated $500 to help the program buy items for the kids to purchase.

"The kids come into Santa's workshop and they get to pick whatever gift they would like for their special adult in their life, they wrap it and put a little card with it and they are ready to go."

"When you see the kids come in and they are just so excited they got their loonies and they are going to buy Grandma a present or they are going to buy their Auntie a present it is so special. It is a really cool program to set off the season."

And no adults are allowed in the workshop except those working there. Elves are available to help any child/youth who may need assistance.

And all the loonies the children spend are donated to the Nanton Food Bank.
