The Foothills School Division Board has disqualified Jeannine Tucker from continuing to serve as a trustee in Ward One.

The board recently received a legal opinion stating that Tucker has a conflict of interest that would disqualify her from fulfilling her duties as a school board trustee.

Board Chair Larry Albrecht says they spent the morning examining the issue.

"We had a lawyer who advised us there was a pecuniary interest," said Albrecht. "That lawyer suggested the interest would lead to disqualification. So the board spent all morning looking at the issue and we agreed with the legal opinion and the advice. So the board moved to pass a motion to disqualify accordingly."

The remaining trustees will be sharing the duties in ward one until a by-election can be held.

The board said in a press release that out of respect for the process and Ms. Tucker’s privacy, they will not divulge specific information.
