Come November, the City of Calgary needs to make a decision on whether or not to bid on hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics.

In what's sure to be a heated issue, Yes Calgary 2026 has taken a positive stance on the opportunity, claiming it will enable significant benefit to our city and province, leading up to and well beyond hosting the event.

In an info-session held on July 17th at Canada Olympic Park, hundreds of people gathered to show their support for the massive event, with many having lived through the 1988 Winter Olympics and the positive legacy it brought the city.

One of those in attendence was Olympic gold medallist Michelle Cameron-Coulter, who says, "being here when the games were here in 1988 and seeing what that did for the city and the legacy it left behind, and now to re-charge that with the next generation would be an incredible opportunity."

Cameron-Coulter says, "the game also brings with it renewed sports facilities that help train athletes as well as support and resources from athletes that become coaches."

There's no doubt that hosting the 2026 winter olympics would have some effect on surrounding communities as well such as Okotoks and High River, and if you have a vision for what hosting the games could look like, share that vision with yescalgary2026.ca.
