Shovels are set to finally hit the ground for what the Foothills School Division is currently calling the High River Community Resource Centre.

With walls set to go up along 4th Avenue and Macleod Trail, the building will house both provincial government services as well as administration for FSD.

Drew Chipman, assistant superintendent with FSD, says construction will begin in a couple of weeks.

Chipman says there's still a few loose ends that need tying.

"We' haven't finalized our lease agreement with the province yet but we're working on such things as layouts and how that's going to be finalized. Graham Construction is the group that's got that contract, they're a big contractor and they're able to move forward quite quickly and that's certainly the plan," he says. "The town and the province have been working on finalizing the development permit with Graham Construction as well so we anticipate that to be done shortly then construction will begin quite quickly after that."

Chipman adds he hopes to see a public event take place to celebrate this new beginning.

"We're kind of the tail that gets wagged by the dog, the province is the big player on that so we're waiting to hear from them but hopefully we'll be able to have an opportunity to have a public ceremony to move that forward because we're excited about it and we want to make sure the public knows what's going on."

The building is still set for a completion date of December 2016.
