If you had travel plans over the long weekend take care if you head to southern Alberta.

The B.C. forest fires caused the M.D. of Pincher Creek to issue an air quality warning on Thursday night on August 2, warning its residents to close their doors and windows to the hazy outside air.

The warning was later called off on Friday morning on August 3, but lingering ash and irritants in the air may still be irritating to young children, seniors and anyone with heart and lung problems.

While the air has been a little hazy in the M.D. of Foothills over the last couple weeks, no air quality warning has been issued, however Environment Canada suggests to remain alert, for air quality warnings.

They suggest in the case of a warning, to find a filtered, air conditioned room, isolated from the outside air for the duration of the air quality warning.

Pincher Creek, which sits only 60 kilometres from the B.C. border, was one of the many areas with poor air quality due to the fires, with other locations including Banff, Canmore and Kananaskis.

Up to date reports on air quality for the Foothills can be found at HighRiverOnlines weather section.
