Smoky skies and stormy weather meant a disappointing weekend for locals hoping to catch a glimpse of the Perseid meteor shower.

The Big Sky Observatory located near the Twin Valley Dam cancelled their two day, weekend viewing event.

Astronomer James Durbano says smoke from forest fires made the chances of being able to view the meteor shower, slim to none.

Durbano says he hopes backyard astronomers will look to the skies for November's "Leonid" and Decembers "Geminid" meteor showers instead.
