The SNAPS eighth annual Leather and Chaps motorcycle rally on Saturday July 21 in High River this year, has managed to raise $14,000 to support the organization.

Vice President for Foothills SNAPS Orvella Small says they didnt quite hit their goal of $15,000, but many local riders may have been in a better position to support the fundraiser this year.

"I think what was happening was, we had the same amount of riders, but many of the riders have been a little more secure this year in their economic fields, and decided to spend a little more money in the fundraising event this year."

Small attributes the success of this years fundraiser to some of the changes they made with the event.

"We only had one more rider than we did last year, we skipped the silent auction items, but had a basket raffle, and ran a 50/50 draw which completely sold out, which is unheard of."

Small says, need for the program within the community is increasing this year, so fundraising events are even more important to keep the program going.

"Each time we do an event, they are essential to assure we are meeting out budget needs, we dont like parents to be on waiting lists, so we try to find ways to meet with every parent or individual that reaches out to us."

Small notes that the SNAPS program is not regularly funded by government grants.

"We are constantly applying for grants, and some we do manage to receive, but continued support is not a gurantee, and with the need for our program increasing in the community, its nice to know we have local support to meet costs for the year."
