High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass says 2018 is the year High River really started to get past the flood and look to the future.

Snodgrass says the vibe in town over the past year was one of moving on.

"Oh, I'd describe 2018 as back to normal issues for High River. Not a lot of flood related stuff, a couple of projects going on but we're kind of past that stuff which is great!"

If you ask Snodgrass he'll tell you 2018 was the year High River really got back to normal.

There were still a few odd's and end's that had to be dealt with from the 2013 flood, but mostly he says he and Council transitioned from being "reactive" to "proactive."

"The reactive stuff, I'll be honest, it gets chaotic and it's stressful and everything else, for everybody. So, to have that behind us is great, not just for our sanity but for the whole community. You know a project like the flood gates, everybody's tired of construction, they all know how necessary it is but just the fact that it's just another disruption."

Snodgrass says he can't promise a construction free summer in High River, but he says we've definitely earned a break.
