High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass is signing a letter of support to help the Hearts and Minds program continue in the Foothills and Christ the Redeemer School Divisions. The program began as a recovery-based project after the 2013 flood, and their provincial funding has almost run out. Snodgrass says Hearts and Minds has done an exceptional job promoting mental wellness to kids in town.

"They filled a need after the flood. So many things were very much adult issues with our homes and businesses, and the town and everything else. The kids couldn't be forgotten about, and Hearts and Minds has done an absolutely exceptional job with those guys and making sure they've got the support systems in place that those guys need."

He says the need for this program has not gone away and it's extremely important that the province helps it continue.

"The issue is now that funding from the provincial government is starting to wane, but this need has not gone away. It's extremely important that this program continues, so to lend our support in their application back to the province is an absolute no-brainer."

Snodgrass says his letter of support should be of some help.

"I've learned a lot with how politics works, and whether I agree with the processes of how things are done. I don't agree with everything at all because I don't think you should have to have a letter from the mayor. Who cares? There's a need there. But, a letter from town council, the mayor, does get people's attention."

Snodgrass says he wishes the town could do more to help out the program financially, but it is the province's responsibility to step up.
