Some Foothills drivers are fed up with the gravel found on the road while driving on Highway 2.

Cracks are left in windshields and complaints are left with Volker Stevin who's responsible for the maintenance of the highway.

Rob Ramsay, lead hand at Volker Stevin's Aldersyde shop, says though they are responsible, there is only so much they can control.

"We sweep them in the summer but we can't get all the rocks off that people track onto the road. We sweep all the shoulders off from the stuff we put on in the springtime, like the very first day of spring. But like I said with people coming off all the gravel roads you just can't get them all off."

Ramsay says when complaints are received it's a team effort to address and fix them.

"We usually send them to our safety guys, and our head office guys, they deal with that. And then we will go look at where the complaint is at to see if it is an issue or not and then we will discuss it with Alberta Transportation."

With Alberta having so many gravel roads, that people not only drive on, but that also connect directly to the main highways, it's impossible to keep not only Highway 2 completely clean but all highways in Alberta from the lingering rocks.

Another factor that makes it difficult to keep highways clean is big transport trucks, which have bigger tires that pick up and spread rocks easier along the roads.
