The Foothills Floor Hockey Team took home gold on February 10 in Calgary at the Alberta Provincial Special Olympics.

Town Council recently congratulated all the athletes at a meeting Monday, March 11.

Head Coach for the floor hockey team, Chad Lambourn says the Special Olympics is a great way for the athletes and himself to get away from it all for a bit each week.

"The Foothills Special Olympics for me is more than just sport. Its about inclusion and the ability for an hour and a half every week to get to spend time with friends and build relationships and maybe just forget about work for a while. To me that's what Special Olympics is, you know for me and for the athletes."

Lambourn says he had a blast coaching this years team.

"They were so fun to coach this year, and like I say not much changes from one year to the next. But it's just watching them compete and actually do that well, it almost brings a tear to your eye... it's like winning the Stanley Cup right, it's just that emotion comes out. There's sticks getting thrown and they're hugging, and just the emotion that gets brought out it's crazy."

Lambourn says the key to success is balancing the teams strengths and weaknesses.

"We've got an eclectic group like, we've got that mix. So it's just trying to work out the pairings on you know, you don't want a weak line and a strong line, so you're just looking for that balance."

Lambourn says floor hockey starts up again sometime next December or January.
