Jasper, Banff, Yoho and  Kootenay National Parks are warning people to be careful in the backcountry on this Family Day long weekend.

The avalanche risk is very high in these areas.

Over the last week these regions have had a major and numerous large slides.

Outdoor adventurers with limited or no training should avoid the area completely.

Experienced users are urged to use caution and stick to low angled terrain and make sure their training is up to date.

Visitors are also encouraged to contact the visitors centres to help plan your trip.

Visitors can also hire a professional guide through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (acmg) to help manage their risk.
