The late entry French immersion program is filling up fast at Percy Pegler School.

The program is being targeted at students who are in Grade four and will be starting Grade five in the fall.

Divisional French Immersion Facilitator for the Foothills School Division, Leslie Doell, says the Division brought in the late entry program to see more bilingual students.

"A late entry French immersion program is where students will come in and start in a French Immersion program just as if students would start in a kindergarten program. We're just allowing a second entry point because we would like to see more students graduate bilingual in Foothills School Division and this is a fantastic opportunity for it."

According to Doell, research shows there's cognitive, intellectual, economic, career, and post secondary benefits to being bilingual as well as it improving first language skills.

Registration can be done by picking up a form from the school.

"We're encouraging everybody to do that before Monday, April 9. Right now we're looking for a class that's between 20 and 25 students, and at this point we're four registrations short."
